Two side-by-side barrels that take turns. It's the most forgiving level-15 pick, and the one to take if you want to keep farming without learning anything new.
At 0 stat points. Bullet speed and range include the global bullet-speed and range multipliers.

Duet trades bullet size for bullet count. Each shot does 6.2 damage instead of the Recruit's 8, but the two barrels fire one after the other, a bullet every 0.2 seconds. Add it up and you're doing about 30 damage a second at 0 points, against the Recruit's 13. Nothing else at tier 2 is that simple to get that much out of.
The alternating fire matters more than it looks. Because the barrels take turns, the stream is continuous rather than coming in pairs. A shape you're shooting never gets a gap, and a player you're chasing never gets a clean window to cross your line of fire. The barrels sit 20 px apart, so the stream is a bit wider than a single barrel and more forgiving of slightly off aim.
Range and bullet speed are the same as the Recruit's: 331 px and 368 px/s. You haven't gained reach. You've gained volume. So you still want to fight at the distance where your shots land, which is closer than a Vantage would like.
Recoil per shot is lighter than a Recruit's, 0.75× per bullet, but you fire a lot more bullets, so holding fire still pushes you backwards steadily. That's useful when you're backing off and annoying when you're chasing.
Duet beats Recruits and most Rattlers at mid range, because it hits more reliably than the Rattler's ±7° spray and puts out more damage than a Recruit. Of the four it's the best at farming medium shapes, where sustained damage is all that matters.
It loses to a Vantage that keeps its distance. Vantage bullets go 595 px, yours go 331, and a good Vantage player will stay in the gap between those numbers. Don't walk at it in a straight line. Close in at an angle or leave. A Rearguard is faster than you, so it picks when fights start.
You have 14 points at level 15 and you'll have 28 by level 30. The Duet line is all about volume, so build for it.
If you already know you want the Crossfire or Quadrant, you could have got there through Rearguard as well. Both classes can be reached from either side.
