Horizon

Wiki › Classes › Tier 4

Horizon has the longest-range plain bullet of any class you can play: fast, heavy shots from further away than anyone else can see. It's for patient players who can hit a moving target.

How it plays

Horizon fires one shot every 1.67 seconds that travels at 1,029 px/s for about 926 px. Nothing else that fires a normal bullet gets close to that reach. The shot spreads by at most 0.2°, so it goes where you point it. Your camera sits 1.35× further out than a normal tank's, the biggest view bonus of any class, so you see targets well before they see you.

Every third shot is a special round with double penetration: 8 instead of 4 at 0 points. Penetration is how much a bullet survives, so that round pushes through shapes, drones and enemy bullets that would stop a normal shot. Count your shots. When you know the next one is the heavy round, save it for a target behind a screen of drones or bullets.

The price is fire rate. At 0.6 shots a second, a miss is expensive, and anything that gets close to you has more than a second and a half to act between your shots. Each shot kicks you back with three times a Recruit's recoil, which helps when you're backing away from a chaser.

What it beats and what beats it

Horizon beats every short-range class that can't close the gap: the fans (Pentad, Fanblade), the shotguns (Birdshot, Twinbore), Octant and slow tanks in general. It's a strong pick against Cataclysm, whose shells only reach about 215 px, and against bosses you can shoot from outside their reach.

It struggles against anything fast and determined. Afterburner and Interceptor close distance quickly. Drone classes are a real problem: one bullet every 1.67 seconds can't thin a Dreadnought swarm of twenty. Nightveil can hide from you entirely when it stops moving. And the missile classes Bombardier and Sailfin actually out-reach you, since their accelerating missiles fly about 1,080 and 1,140 px.

Picking it over the other tier 4 options from the same parent

Nightfall leads to Horizon and Nightveil. Both are single-barrel snipers; they differ in how they stay alive.

Horizon keeps you safe with distance: 926 px of range, 1,029 px/s shots, the widest view and a heavy round every third shot. Nightveil keeps you safe by disappearing: it turns invisible after 10 seconds without moving and hits 50% harder while hidden, but its shots are slower (882 px/s), shorter (794 px) and have less penetration (3 against your 4).

Take Horizon if you like to keep moving and pick targets from far away. Take Nightveil if you like to set up in one place and ambush whoever walks past.
